Significant magnitude 5.1 quake hits 10 km southeast of Wao, Philippines after midnight

Just 10 minutes ago, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck near Wao, Lanao del Sur, Mindanao Musulman, Philippines. The tremor was recorded after midnight on Saturday, March 8th, 2025, at 12:53 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Wao (pop. 17,800) located 10 km from the epicenter.
In Don Carlos (pop. 20,500) located 35 km from the epicenter, and Maramag (pop. 33,800) 38 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Midsayap (pop. 32,900) located 49 km from the epicenter, Budta (pop. 1,273,700) 53 km away, Malingao (pop. 1,122,000) 55 km away, Iligan City (pop. 312,300) 79 km away, Davao City (pop. 1,776,900) 117 km away, and Koronadal (pop. 195,400) 123 km away.
