Small magnitude 3.0 quake hits 9 km northwest of Tirana, Albania late at night

An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 occurred late at night on Friday, June 27th, 2025, at 11:02 pm local time near Tirana, Bashkia Tiranë, Albania, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 5. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.1. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS) at magnitude 3.0, and The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 2.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Zall-Herr (pop. 9,400) located 4 km from the epicenter, Kamez (pop. 11,000) 4 km away, and Nikel (pop. 9,500) 5 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tirana (pop. 418,500) located 9 km from the epicenter, Kruje (pop. 21,300) 11 km away, and Lac (pop. 24,800) 26 km away. In Burrel (pop. 15,400, 29 km away), Durres (pop. 122,000, 30 km away), and Kavaje (pop. 29,400, 32 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
