Small 3.7 quake hits near New Delhi, National Capital Territory of Delhi, India A shallow magnitude 3.7 earthquake was reported early evening near New Delhi, National Capital Territory of Delhi, India. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Friday, July 11th, 2025, at 7:19 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Jhajjar (pop. 44,100) located 10 km from the epicenter, and Beri Khas (pop. 16,700) 14 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bahadurgarh (pop. 153,600) located 21 km from the epicenter, Najafgarh (pop. 1,365,000) 27 km away, Rohtak (pop. 317,200) 27 km away, Nangloi Jat (pop. 194,400) 34 km away, Gurugram (pop. 197,300) 39 km away, Sonipat (pop. 250,500) 46 km away, New Delhi (pop. 317,800) 49 km away, and Delhi (pop. 10,928,000) 50 km away.
