Small magnitude 3.8 quake hits 51 miles northwest of Yakutat, Alaska, United States in the morningJust 3 minutes ago, a 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck near Yakutat, Yakutat City and, Alaska, USA. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Thursday, July 24th, 2025, at 8:11 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10.1 miles below the surface. The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.8 earthquake as well. According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Yakutat (pop. 660, 51 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
