Small magnitude 3.6 quake hits 35 miles southeast of Atka, Alaska, United States late at nightThe United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.6 quake in the United States near Atka, Aleutians West, Alaska, 35 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, at 11:16 pm local time at a shallow depth of 15 miles. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. A second report was later issued by The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.6 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.6. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Atka (pop. 64) located 35 miles from the epicenter.
