Moderate magnitude 4.8 earthquake 23 km northeast of Tandag, Philippines An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred in the morning on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025, at 7:01 am local time near Tandag, Surigao del Sur, Caraga, Philippines, as reported by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency. According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Burgos (pop. 3,500) located 19 km from the epicenter, Tandag (pop. 29,000) 23 km away, and Tago (pop. 6,300) 26 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Bayugan (pop. 40,600) located 82 km from the epicenter, Bah-Bah (pop. 28,600) 83 km away, San Francisco (pop. 18,500) 88 km away, Cabadbaran (pop. 31,100) 90 km away, and Butuan (pop. 309,700) 94 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Libertad (pop. 250,400) located 98 km from the epicenter. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
