Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.4 just reported 17 km northeast of Bogo, Philippines The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported a magnitude 4.4 quake in the Philippines near Bogo, Cebu, Central Visayas, only 13 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the afternoon on Sunday, November 23rd, 2025, at 5:44 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Calape (pop. 2,800) located 10 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Daanbantayan (pop. 13,400) located 16 km from the epicenter, Bogo (pop. 23,600) 17 km away, Bantayan (pop. 19,000) 43 km away, and Ormoc (pop. 191,200) 56 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cogan (pop. 57,900) located 63 km from the epicenter, Danao (pop. 70,300) 71 km away, Sagay (pop. 72,200) 79 km away, and Cebu City (pop. 964,200) 96 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
