Magnitude 4.8 earthquake strikes near Pátrai, Achaea, West Greece, Greece UPDATE: the quake was later downgraded to magnitude 4.6.

Just 21 minutes ago, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Pátrai, Achaea, West Greece, Greece. The tremor was recorded late at night on Saturday, December 6th, 2025, at 10:48 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Pátrai (pop. 168,000) located 24 km from the epicenter, Aigio (pop. 20,400) 24 km away, Amaliada (pop. 16,800) 58 km away, Pyrgos (pop. 22,400) 61 km away, and Agrinio (pop. 46,900) 74 km away.
In Athens (pop. 664,000) located 160 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
