Small magnitude 2.9 earthquake 4 km northwest of Chrzanow, Poland The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 2.9 quake in Poland near Chrzanow, Chrzanów County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, only 4 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the afternoon on Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, at 5:34 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Chrzanow (pop. 40,000) located 4 km from the epicenter, Libiaz (pop. 17,800) 6 km away, Jaworzno (pop. 96,500) 8 km away, Trzebinia (pop. 18,800) 9 km away, Myslowice (pop. 72,100) 14 km away, and Oswiecim (pop. 34,200) 16 km away. In Dabrowa Gornicza (pop. 117,000, 23 km away), Katowice (pop. 317,300, 26 km away), and Krakow (pop. 755,100, 43 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
