Moderate tremor of magnitude 4.4 just reported 16 km north of Lamia, Greece An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred only 10 minutes ago 16 km north of Lamia, Greece, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported. The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Lamia, Phthiotis, Central Greece, Greece, early morning on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, at 6:53 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH) at magnitude 4.2, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.4, and The Seismological Laboratory of the University of Athens (UOA) at magnitude 4.4. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Fyliadona (pop. 430) located 7 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Lamia (pop. 52,000) located 16 km from the epicenter, Rodhitsa (pop. 3,500) 18 km away, and Karditsa (pop. 32,800) 55 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Nea Ionia (pop. 32,700) located 58 km from the epicenter, Volos (pop. 86,000) 59 km away, Larisa (pop. 146,900) 65 km away, Livadeia (pop. 21,500) 79 km away, and Trikala (pop. 61,700) 79 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
