Small tremor of magnitude 3.9 just reported 10 km east of La Carlota, Philippines

Just 12 minutes ago, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake struck near La Carlota, Negros Occidental, Western Visayas, Philippines. The tremor was recorded early morning on Wednesday, January 14th, 2026, at 4:06 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), which listed it as a magnitude 3.9 earthquake as well. A third agency, the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, reported the same quake at magnitude 3.9.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in San Miguel (pop. 3,800) located 2 km from the epicenter, Maao (pop. 25,800) 7 km away, La Carlota (pop. 67,700) 10 km away, La Castellana (pop. 24,400) 12 km away, Bago City (pop. 191,200) 22 km away, Mansilingan (pop. 454,200) 23 km away, Tinongan (pop. 62,100) 24 km away, and Bacolod City (pop. 454,900) 27 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Iloilo City (pop. 473,700) located 57 km from the epicenter.
