Moderate magnitude 4.9 earthquake 35 km southwest of Amahai, Indonesia

An earthquake of magnitude 4.9 occurred in the morning on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, at 8:50 am local time near Amahai, Kabupaten Maluku Tengah, Maluku, Indonesia, as reported by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a moderately shallow depth of 34. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
