Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes near King Cove, Aleutians East, Alaska, USAThe United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in the United States near King Cove, Aleutians East, Alaska, only 9 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early evening on Wednesday, May 13th, 2026, at 6:53 pm local time at a moderately shallow depth of 31 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include False Pass (pop. 40) located 57 miles from the epicenter, and King Cove (pop. 1000) 58 miles away.
