Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.8 just reported 104 km northwest of Bukittinggi, Indonesia

An intermediate to deep magnitude 4.8 earthquake was reported early afternoon near Bukittinggi, Kota Bukittinggi, Provinsi Sumatera Barat, Indonesia.
According to Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the quake hit on Friday, May 29th, 2026, at 3:54 pm local time at an intermediate to considerable depth of 174. km. The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake as well.
