Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.5 just reported 76 km northwest of Catuday, Philippines A shallow magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported in the morning near Catuday, Pangasinan, Ilocos, Philippines. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2026, at 8:33 am local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency which listed the quake at magnitude 4.7. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) at magnitude 4.2, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.2. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Catuday (pop. 2,100) located 76 km from the epicenter, Macabuboni (pop. 2,500) 77 km away, Aloleng (pop. 2,400) 80 km away, and Ranao (pop. 2,100) 80 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
