Moderate yet deep magnitude 5.4 earthquake 21 km southwest of Managua, Nicaragua Just 6 minutes ago, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Managua, Departamento de Managua, Nicaragua. The tremor was recorded early morning on Friday, June 26th, 2026, at 5:57 am local time, at an intermediate depth of 112. km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Villa El Carmen (pop. 5,200) located 12 km from the epicenter, Ciudad Sandino (pop. 50,000) 14 km away, Mateare (pop. 61,200) 19 km away, Managua (pop. 973,100) 21 km away, San Rafael del Sur (pop. 29,800) 24 km away, Tipitapa (pop. 50,000) 39 km away, and Leon (pop. 144,500) 64 km away.
