Small magnitude 3.0 quake hits 9 km northeast of Innsbruck, Austria early morning A magnitude 3.0 earthquake near Innsbruck, Tirol, Austria, was reported only 5 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 1. km beneath the epicenter early morning on Saturday, August 8th, 2026, at 6:42 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. Moderate shaking probably occurred in Hall in Tirol (pop. 13,300) located 1 km from the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Absam (pop. 7,100) located 2 km from the epicenter, Mils bei Solbad Hall (pop. 4,400) 2 km away, Thaur (pop. 4,000) 3 km away, Rum (pop. 9,200) 4 km away, Volders (pop. 3,800) 5 km away, Wattens (pop. 7,900) 7 km away, and Innsbruck (pop. 132,500) 9 km away. In Telfs (pop. 15,200, 33 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
