Magnitude 4.4 earthquake strikes near Tomatlan, Tomatlán Municipality, Estado de Jalisco, Mexico

Just 29 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Tomatlan, Tomatlán Municipality, Estado de Jalisco, Mexico. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Sunday, August 9th, 2026, at 9:16 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 18.40 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
