Moderate magnitude 4.4 earthquake 89 km northeast of Athens, Greece

An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred just 7 minutes ago, 89 km northeast of Athens, Greece, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake struck at a very shallow depth of 5. km beneath the epicenter near Athens, Nomarchía Athínas, Attica, Greece, on Friday morning, September 18th, 2026, at 9:40 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review the data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their reports.
A second report was later issued by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH), which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake.
