Magnitude 3.5 earthquake reported 5 km northwest of Yalova, Turkey

Just 39 minutes ago, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake struck near Yalova, Turkey. The tremor was recorded late at night on Saturday, October 10th, 2026, at 10:08 pm local time, at a very shallow depth of 8. km below the surface.
The event was reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), which also listed it as a magnitude 3.5 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network RaspberryShake, which measured it at magnitude 3.5; the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Geophysical Lab. (AUTH), which measured it at magnitude 3.2; and the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which measured it at magnitude 3.5.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage but was probably felt by many people as light vibrations in the epicentral area.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Yalova (pop. 71,300), located 5 km from the epicenter; Gebze (pop. 281,400), 19 km away; Orhangazi (pop. 51,800), 24 km away; Maltepe (pop. 427,000), 28 km away; and Sultanbeyli (pop. 286,600), 29 km away.
