Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.7 just reported 98 km south of Bambanglipuro, Indonesia A magnitude 4.7 earthquake near Bambanglipuro, Kabupaten Bantul, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta, Indonesia, was reported only 6 minutes ago by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Indonesia. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 21. km beneath the epicenter early afternoon on Sunday, January 25th, 2026, at 3:51 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.7 earthquake as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bambanglipuro (pop. 44,700) located 98 km from the epicenter, Pundong (pop. 24,100) 99 km away, Srandakan (pop. 29,500) 99 km away, Wonosari (pop. 87,500) 106 km away, Sewon (pop. 73,600) 108 km away, Kasihan (pop. 86,200) 113 km away, and Yogyakarta (pop. 373,600) 116 km away. VolcanoDiscovery will automatically update magnitude and depth if these change and follow up if other significant news about the quake become available. If you’re in the area, please send us your experience through our reporting mechanism, either online or via our mobile app. This will help us provide more first-hand updates to anyone around the globe who wants to know more about this quake.
