Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.7 just reported 81 km northeast of Tandag, Philippines

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported a magnitude 4.7 quake in the Philippines near Tandag, Surigao del Sur, Caraga, only 8 minutes ago. The earthquake hit late at night on Thursday, February 19th, 2026, at 10:43 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10. km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.7 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Union (pop. 2,400) located 39 km from the epicenter, Pilar (pop. 2,400) 42 km away, Dapa (pop. 8,800) 46 km away, Socorro (pop. 9,700) 57 km away, Cantilan (pop. 9,400) 72 km away, and Tandag (pop. 29,000) 81 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Surigao (pop. 87,800) located 107 km from the epicenter.
