Magnitude 4.1 earthquake strikes near Lisbon, Distrito de Lisboa, Portugal An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 occurred around noon on Thursday, February 19th, 2026, at 12:16 pm local time near Lisbon, Distrito de Lisboa, Portugal, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 2. km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by France's Réseau National de Surveillance Sismique (RéNaSS), which listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake. Other agencies reporting the same quake include Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN) at magnitude 4.3, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 4.3.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Meca (pop. 1,700) located 2 km from the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Azambuja (pop. 21,400) located 12 km from the epicenter, Vila Franca de Xira (pop. 18,400) 14 km away, Torres Vedras (pop. 24,400) 21 km away, Loures (pop. 66,200) 31 km away, and Odivelas (pop. 54,600) 35 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Amadora (pop. 178,900) located 41 km from the epicenter, Lisbon (pop. 517,800) 41 km away, Queluz (pop. 103,400) 42 km away, and Cacem (pop. 94,000) 43 km away.
