Teleport facilities
SELECTV will outsource all its technical broadcasting facilities and use a distributed broadcast facility.
SELECTV has entered into an agreement with Sydney Teleport Services Pty Ltd (STS) in Sydney, to use
the Teleport facility operated by STS as the primary broadcast (uplink) facility for SELECTV. In addition
SELECTV will use the PanAmSat teleport in Napa Valley (USA) to uplink content to the PAS8 satellite.
A summary of the key terms of the agreements relating to the provision of teleport (or terrestrial) services to
the Company is contained in Section 9.6(c).
The use of a distributed broadcast system means that SELECTV will be able to uplink content to the PAS8
satellite directly from teleports located around the Pacific basin. This reduces content handling costs as
content can be uplinked directly to the PAS8 satellite rather than having to be transmitted to Australia from
the source before being uplinked.
SELECTV believes that distributed teleports are a cost efficient way of aggregating geographically
disparate services to form a single, cohesive broadcast service.
43

Master control room
The network master control room will be located at the Sydney teleport facility. It will be manned 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week and will provide the monitoring and control of the overall satellite transmission network.
The video compression systems that SELECTV will install at each of the uplink sites will be capable of
being remotely monitored and configured. The master control room will provide this ongoing monitoring
and diagnostic role and will also be the primary support function for SELECTV’s conditional access system.
