Yes that is true... Chinese women used to bind their feet to make them as tiny as possible and such.
"Socially accepted" - now that's an interesting way to put it. It would almost suggest that those born within that social realm would be raised to "conform" so to speak.
About "endowments" - I had that thought too. LOL
After all, does a sense not become enhanced when a sense is lost?
