Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes near Pinotepa Nacional, Mexico 4.2 quake 29 Nov 3:46 pm (GMT -6) A magnitude 4.2 earthquake near Agua Zarca was reported 32 minutes ago by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Mexico. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 6 km beneath the epicenter early afternoon on Sunday 29 November 2020 at 3.46 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage. Moderate shaking probably occurred in Agua Zarca (pop. 1,100) located 3 km from the epicenter, Plan de Buena Vista (pop. 100) 3 km away, La Cuchilla (pop. 100) 3 km away, and El Aguacate (pop. 300) 4 km away. Weak shaking might have been felt in Barrio Nuevo (pop. 200) located 5 km from the epicenter, Ometepec (pop. 24,100) 33 km away, Ayutla de los Libres (pop. 15,400) 58 km away, and Pinotepa Nacional (pop. 29,600) 75 km away.
