Moderate 4.5 quake hits near Ternate, Maluku Utara, Indonesia 4.5 quake 21 Feb 1:46 am (GMT +9) An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred only 10 minutes ago 84 km northwest of Ternate, Indonesia, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate depth of 78 km beneath the epicenter near Ternate, Maluku Utara, Indonesia, early morning on Sunday 21 February 2021 at 1:46 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ternate (pop. 101,700) located 84 km from the epicenter, and Sofifi (pop. 36,200) 102 km away.
