An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred early evening on Saturday 20 February 2021 at 7:04 pm local time near Sorong, West Papua, Indonesia, as reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 10 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface.
