Magnitude 4.2 earthquake strikes near Bālurghāt, Dakshin Dinajpur district, West Bengal, India 4.2 quake 7 May 7:17 am (GMT +5:30) An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 16 minutes ago 21 km northwest of Bālurghāt, India, India's National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 279 km beneath the epicenter near Bālurghāt, Dakshin Dinajpur district, West Bengal, India, early morning on Friday 7 May 2021 at 6:47 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Gangarampur (pop. 65,300, 15 km away), Bālurghāt (pop. 141,400, 21 km away), Dinājpur (pop. 206,200, 27 km away), Kāliyāganj (pop. 51,700, 44 km away), Saidpur (pop. 199,400, 48 km away), Rāiganj (pop. 170,300, 61 km away), and Ingrāj Bāzār (pop. 170,000, 68 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
