Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.7 just reported 52 km northwest of San Antonio de los Cobres, Argentina 4.7 quake 19 May 9:04 am (GMT -3) A magnitude 4.7 earthquake near San Antonio de los Cobres, Departamento de Los Andes, Salta, Argentina, was reported only 7 minutes ago by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate to considerable depth of 202 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Wednesday 19 May 2021 at 9:04 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include San Antonio de los Cobres (pop. 4,000) located 52 km from the epicenter, and Santa Rosa de Tastil (pop. 2,000) 95 km away.
