Magnitude 4.3 earthquake strikes near Tacna, Provincia de Tacna, Peru

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.3 quake in Peru near Tacna, Provincia de Tacna, only 25 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Tuesday 18 May 2021 at 9:13 pm local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the United States Geological Survey, which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Kallapuma (pop. 62) located 15 km from the epicenter, Chuquitira (pop. 4,200) 26 km away, Chipispaya (pop. 1,900) 42 km away, and Quilahuani (pop. 3,200) 47 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ilabaya (pop. 9,500) located 73 km from the epicenter, and Tacna (pop. 280,100) 81 km away.
