Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in Papua New Guinea near Ambunti, Ambunti-Dreikikir, East Sepik Province, only 13 minutes ago. The earthquake hit around noon on Friday 11 June 2021 at 12:07 pm local time at an intermediate depth of 111 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ambunti (pop. 2,100) located 5 km from the epicenter.
