Small magnitude 3.5 earthquake 12 miles northwest of Alaska City, Alaska, United States 3.5 quake 21 Jul 7:12 am (GMT -8) Just 15 minutes ago, a 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Alaska City, Anchorage, Alaska, USA. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Wednesday 21 July 2021 at 7:12 am local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 22 miles below the surface. The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.5 as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Point MacKenzie (pop. 530) located 2 miles from the epicenter, Big Lake (pop. 3,400) 10 miles away, Alaska City (pop. 298,700) 12 miles away, Eagle River (pop. 24,800) 16 miles away, Eagle River (pop. 24,800) 16 miles away, Elmendorf Air Force Base (pop. 6,600) 16 miles away, Knik-Fairview (pop. 14,900) 16 miles away, Meadow Lakes (pop. 7,600) 22 miles away, and Wasilla (pop. 9,300) 23 miles away.
