Small 3.1 quake hits near Cold Springs, Tuolumne County, California, USA 3.1 quake 13 Aug 4:51 am (GMT -7) A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported early morning near Cold Springs, Tuolumne County, California, USA.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake hit on Friday 13 August 2021 at 4:51 am local time at a shallow depth of 9.9 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Cold Springs (pop. 180) located 16 miles from the epicenter. In Twain Harte (pop. 2,200, 28 miles away), Cedar Ridge (pop. 1,100, 29 miles away), Arnold (pop. 3,800, 31 miles away), Mono Vista (pop. 3,100, 31 miles away), Phoenix Lake (pop. 4,300, 33 miles away), and Sonora (pop. 4,800, 37 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
