Moderate magnitude 4.2 quake hits 66 km southeast of Faizabad, Afghanistan around noon

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred 35 minutes ago 66 km southeast of Faizabad, Afghanistan, the United States Geological Survey reported.
The quake hit at an intermediate to considerable depth of 202.8 km beneath the epicenter near Faizabad, Faīẕābād, Badakhshan, Afghanistan, around noon on Monday 30 August 2021 at 12:18 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Jurm (pop. 12,100, 33 km away), Ashkāsham (pop. 12,100, 62 km away), Faizabad (pop. 44,400, 66 km away), Ishqoshim (pop. 26,000, 70 km away), and Farkhār (pop. 10,500, 89 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
