Moderate magnitude 4.2 earthquake 48 km northeast of Ratnagiri, India 4.2 quake 15 Nov 2:36 am (GMT +5:30) A magnitude 4.2 earthquake near Ratnagiri, Ratnagiri District, Maharashtra, India, was reported only 9 minutes ago by India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 0.8 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Monday, November 15th, 2021, at 2:06 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Mākhjan (pop. 10,000) located 28 km from the epicenter, and Koynanagar (pop. 28,100) 29 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ratnagiri (pop. 76,000) located 48 km from the epicenter, Malkapur (pop. 32,000) 49 km away, Chiplun (pop. 51,400) 49 km away, Karad (pop. 55,700) 50 km away, Kodoli (pop. 17,500) 57 km away, and Satara (pop. 112,800) 66 km away.
