Magnitude 3.3 earthquake strikes near Eureka, Humboldt County, California, USA 3.3 quake 20 Dec 1:10 pm (GMT -8) The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.3 quake in the United States near Eureka, Humboldt County, California, only 8 minutes ago. The earthquake hit around noon on Monday, December 20th, 2021, at 1:10 pm local time at a shallow depth of 16 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Scotia (pop. 850) located 7 miles from the epicenter, Rio Dell (pop. 3,400) 8 miles away, Ferndale (pop. 1,400) 9 miles away, Fortuna (pop. 12,000) 11 miles away, and Humboldt Hill (pop. 3,400) 20 miles away. In Eureka (pop. 27,000, 25 miles away), Bayside (pop. 17,100, 29 miles away), Uniontown (pop. 17,800, 30 miles away), and McKinleyville (pop. 15,200, 35 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
