Moderate tremor of magnitude 4.1 just reported 24 miles northwest of Val-d'Or, Canada 4.1 quake 28 Dec 6:22 pm (GMT -5) A magnitude 4.1 earthquake near Val-d'Or, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, Canada, was reported only 10 minutes ago by the Department of Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles beneath the epicenter early evening on Tuesday, December 28th, 2021, at 6:22 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Malartic (pop. 3,700) located 9 miles from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Val-d'Or (pop. 25,500) located 24 miles from the epicenter, Amos (pop. 17,900) 27 miles away, Rouyn-Noranda (pop. 23,500) 33 miles away, and La Sarre (pop. 7,200) 59 miles away.
