Moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.2 just reported 66 km southeast of Faizabad, Afghanistan 4.2 quake 6 Jun 4:52 am (GMT +4:30) A magnitude 4.2 earthquake near Faizabad, Faīẕābād, Badakhshan, Afghanistan, was reported only 14 minutes ago by India's National Center for Seismology (NCS), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in this part of the world. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Monday, June 6th, 2022, at 4:22 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Jurm (pop. 12,100) located 31 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Ashkāsham (pop. 12,100) located 54 km from the epicenter, Ishqoshim (pop. 26,000) 62 km away, Faizabad (pop. 44,400) 66 km away, and Farkhār (pop. 10,500) 97 km away.
