Magnitude 4.4 earthquake strikes near Kuril'sk, Sakhalin Oblast, Russia 4.4 quake 3 Jul 3:10 am (GMT +10) Just 32 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Kuril'sk, Sakhalin Oblast, Russia. The tremor was recorded early morning on Sunday, July 3rd, 2022, at 3:10 am local time, at an intermediate depth of 138 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Kuril'sk (pop. 1,700) located 88 km from the epicenter, and Shikotan (pop. 2,100) 98 km away.
