Magnitude 4.6 earthquake strikes near Barranca, Lima region, Peru 4.6 quake 28 Jul 8:41 am (GMT -5) An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 occurred only 16 minutes ago 86 km west of Barranca, Peru, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported. The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 36 km beneath the epicenter near Barranca, Lima region, Peru, in the morning on Thursday, July 28th, 2022, at 8:41 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake, which listed it as a magnitude 4.6 earthquake as well. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Gramadal (pop. 31) located 72 km from the epicenter, Paramonga (pop. 27,600) 79 km away, Pativilca (pop. 13,600) 84 km away, Huarmey (pop. 16,200) 86 km away, Barranca (pop. 46,300) 86 km away, Puerto Supe (pop. 11,500) 89 km away, Supe (pop. 13,700) 92 km away, and Huacho (pop. 54,500) 111 km away.
