4.9 quake 11 Aug 12:35 am (GMT +9)

Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) reported a magnitude 4.9 quake in Japan near Wakkanai, Wakkanai Shi, Hokkaido, only 13 minutes ago. The earthquake hit after midnight on Thursday, August 11th, 2022, at 12:35 am local time at a very shallow depth of 5.2 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 4.6. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) at magnitude 4.6, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) at magnitude 4.6.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage.
Moderate shaking probably occurred in Nakagawa (pop. 1,600) located 4 km from the epicenter.
In Horonobe (pop. 2,400) located 29 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
