Small tremor of magnitude 3.1 just reported 17 miles northeast of West Yellowstone, Wyoming, United States 3.1 quake 25 Aug 9:35 pm (GMT -6) The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.1 quake in the United States near West Yellowstone, Gallatin County, Montana, only 19 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the evening on Thursday, August 25th, 2022, at 9:35 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 4.7 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.1 earthquake as well. Other agencies reporting the same quake include the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 2.6, and the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake at magnitude 3.1. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mammoth (pop. 260) located 14 miles from the epicenter, West Yellowstone (pop. 1,300) 17 miles away, and Gardiner (pop. 880) 17 miles away. In Big Sky (pop. 2,300, 44 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
