Significant 5.0 quake hits near Taitung City, Taiwan
5.0 quake 13 Nov 9:47 am (GMT +8)

Just 12 minutes ago, a 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck near Taitung City, Taiwan. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Sunday, November 13th, 2022, at 9:47 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.1.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Taitung City (pop. 109,600) located 38 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Hengchun (pop. 31,300) located 60 km from the epicenter, Donggang (pop. 47,700) 69 km away, Kaohsiung City (pop. 1,519,700) 86 km away, and Tainan City (pop. 771,200) 113 km away.
