Magnitude 3.5 earthquake strikes near Pisek, Písek District, Jihočeský kraj, Czechia 3.5 quake 7 Mar 11:41 am (GMT +1) The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 3.5 quake in the Czech Republic near Pisek, Písek District, Jihočeský kraj, only 27 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Thursday, March 7th, 2024, at 11:41 am local time at a shallow depth of 13 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.4. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter. Weak shaking might have been felt in Nevězice (pop. 150) located 9 km from the epicenter. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Blatna (pop. 6,700) located 12 km from the epicenter, Pisek (pop. 29,800) 17 km away, Strakonice (pop. 23,500) 22 km away, Přibram (pop. 35,300) 28 km away, and Taboras (pop. 36,300) 45 km away. In Klatovy (pop. 23,100, 54 km away), Pilsen (pop. 164,200, 59 km away), České Budějovice (pop. 96,100, 61 km away), and Prague (pop. 1,165,600, 77 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
