Just 5 minutes ago, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Iquique, Provincia de Iquique, Tarapaca, Chile. The tremor was recorded early afternoon on Thursday, March 7th, 2024, at 2:04 pm local time, at a moderately shallow depth of 46 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
