Moderate 4.0 quake hits near Fier, Qarku i Fierit, Albania 4.0 quake 25 Oct 7:32 pm (GMT +2) An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 occurred only 9 minutes ago 12 km southeast of Fier, Albania, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported. The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter near Fier, Qarku i Fierit, Albania, early evening on Friday, October 25th, 2024, at 7:32 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from The Seismological Survey of Serbia (SSS) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.1. A third agency, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.7. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc. In Roskovec (pop. 6,700) located 4 km from the epicenter, Patos (pop. 60,000) 7 km away, and Patos Fshat (pop. 22,700) 8 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Baleri (pop. 10,400) located 12 km from the epicenter, Fier (pop. 56,300) 12 km away, Berat (pop. 46,900) 21 km away, Petrolia (pop. 18,200) 21 km away, and Lushnje (pop. 41,500) 27 km away. Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Tirana (pop. 374,800) located 71 km from the epicenter, and Durres (pop. 122,000) 72 km away.
