Significant 5.2 quake hits near Singaparna, West Java, Indonesia

Indonesia was shaken near Singaparna, West Java, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 only 16 minutes ago, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 27 km beneath the epicenter near Singaparna, West Java, Indonesia, in the morning on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024, at 8:41 am local time. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the United States Geological Survey, which listed it as a magnitude 4.8 earthquake. Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Singaparna (pop. 48,900) located 129 km from the epicenter.
