Magnitude 3.6 earthquake strikes near Cosenza, Calabria, Italy

A magnitude 3.6 earthquake near Cosenza, Calabria, Italy, was reported only 17 minutes ago by Italy's National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Italy. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate to considerable depth of 278.30 km beneath the epicenter early afternoon on Thursday, February 6th, 2025, at 2:42 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.6 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage.
