Small magnitude 2.8 earthquake 7 km southeast of Kufstein, Austria A magnitude 2.8 earthquake near Kufstein, Bezirk Kufstein, Tyrol, Austria, was reported only 5 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Thursday, February 13th, 2025, at 11:43 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report. Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 2.7. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Scheffau am Wilden Kaiser (pop. 1,400) located 2 km from the epicenter, Kufstein (pop. 9,800) 7 km away, Kirchbichl (pop. 5,900) 10 km away, Wörgl (pop. 13,800) 13 km away, Sankt Johann in Tirol (pop. 9,400) 15 km away, and Kitzbuehel (pop. 8,300) 16 km away. In Rosenheim (pop. 60,200, 37 km away), Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer (pop. 16,800, 48 km away), and Innsbruck (pop. 132,500, 69 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
